SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Oakland Track and Field team turned in a strong showing at the Notre Dame Invitational on Saturday, recording multiple top-five finishes, three first place remarks, two school records, and standout multiple performances across the board.
Kylei Anderson kicked off the meet for the Oakland women, seeing action in the long jump, where she posted a best of 5.36m for a fourth place finish. She later recorded a competitive 8.55s in the 60 meter hurdles, taking home one of three top spots for the Black and Gold.
Lauren Goodman led the Golden Grizzlies on the track with a standout day in the sprints. Goodman opened the meet by placing second in the 60 meters, crossing the line in 7.57, before closing her afternoon with a first-place finish in the 200 meters at 23.12, the top time of the meet.
Oakland continued to add depth in the sprint events, as Catherine Leahy finished eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.98, while A'naia Herd recorded a 27.25 finish. In the 400 meters, Leahy again paced the Golden Grizzlies, placing eighth overall with a time of 1:03.72. Herd followed closely behind in 11th (1:04.52), and Natalia Bohn rounded out Oakland's efforts with a 14th-place finish.
Distance runner Eliza Bush continued her impressive freshman campaign indoors with a 9:41.15 finish in the 3000 meter race — good for a first place finale and broken school record in her second meet of the indoor season.
On the men's side, Pierce Grzymkowski led Oakland's efforts in the 800 meters, running a tactical race to place third overall with a time of 1:51.06, one of the top competitive marks of the day. In the 200 meters, sophomore Evan Bryan represented Oakland, recording a time of 22.90s for a top-eight finish.
For the sprinters, Oakland's presence was marked by Kayson Legg-Carrs's contribution in the school record for freshman in the men's indoor 60m hurdles. His 8:35s record in the prelims set him up for a fourth place finish in the finals.
Oakland's distance squad also competed in the mile, with Anthony Hancock posting 4:12.31, Collin McLaughlin running 4:21.05, and Tyler Donovan finishing with a competitive 4:25.69.
The Golden Grizzlies are back next weekend to close out the month of January at the Jets Pizza Invitational at Saginaw Valley State Friday and Saturday, Jan. 30 and 31.
