ALLENDALE & SAGINAW, Mich. – The Golden Grizzlies men's and women's indoor track and field team wrapped up their first meets of the 2025-26 season today at both the GVSU Holiday Open and the SVSU Holiday Open.

Both teams showed strong, as 11 student-athletes placed in the top-five between both meets, including a first-place finish in the women's 60m hurdles from junior Kylei Anderson (8.68). Sophomore Tyler Donovan broke his own set record in the men's 800-meter race, finishing on the track in 1:51.13 for an Oakland record.

At Grand Valley, sophomore Lauren Goodman inched her way up from prelims to a fifth-place finish in the women's 60m at 7.64. Along in the top-five with her was fifth-year Catherine Leahy in the 400m race in second place (57.43), senior Hannah Fisher in fourth place in the one-mile invite race (5:06.63), junior Mackenzie Lemke in second place in the one-mile open race (5:27.55), and senior Makenna Scott in heat two of the 3000m (10:37.56).

On the men's side of the track, right behind Donovan and his record was teammate sophomore Pierce Grzymkowski in fourth place in the men's 800m race, clocking in at 1:53.62. Freshman Collin McLaughlin also showed pace in the men's one-mile open race with a 4:20.19 finish in fourth place.

Back on the east side of the state, in Saginaw, Oakland's pole vaulters and throwers competed at SVSU's Holiday Open. Senior Jamie Giese landed at 14.46m for second place in the shot put before junior Elizabeth Rice took home fifth in the weight throw, reaching for 17.45m. Men's throwers Connor Cherney and Blake Foster took home top-10 spots in the men's shot put event (15.09m - 8th, 15.00m - 10th), while pole vaulters Genna Golab and Simon Griemert vaulted at 3.41 and 4.16 meters.

Oakland will take about a month off from competition before heading to Akron for the Al Campbell Invitational on January 16.
