GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Golden Grizzlies weren't able to overcome a slow start on the road, falling to Green Bay, 73-59, at the Kress Events Center, despite a strong rebounding effort with 43 total boards.
The game opened with Oakland's
Angie Smith scoring a layup at 9:28, responding quickly after Green Bay's initial basket. Despite an early tie, turnovers plagued Oakland, resulting in the Phoenix's ability to pull ahead.
Layla Gold hit a 3-pointer at 6:11, momentarily closing the gap, but Green Bay maintained control with multiple scoring runs.
Lianna Baxter added a jumper and two free throws late in the quarter, but Oakland trailed 21-9 at the end of the first quarter.
Oakland experienced a significant momentum shift midway through the second quarter with a series of scoring plays.
Layla Gold sparked the effort with a layup at 4:14, followed by
Makenzie Luehring's 3-pointer at 3:31, assisted by
Jazzy Dupree-Hebert. Gold continued to contribute with a layup at 2:55 and a 3-pointer at 2:15, narrowing the gap against the Phoenix.
