ROCHESTER, Mich. — Oakland (11-10, 7-3 HL) fell to IU Indianapolis (6-16, 2-9 HL), 103-85, on Wednesday night at the OU Credit Union O'rena. Despite a strong performance from beyond the arc with 10 three-pointers, Oakland could not overcome the Jaguars' dominance in the paint, where the visitors scored 68 points. Oakland's efforts were led by their 21 assists and 16 fast-break points, but IU Indy's efficient shooting and consistent rebounding secured the win.
Junior
Isaac Garrett led the Black and Gold with 18 points, shooting 7-of-9 from the field, and added four rebounds, marking the second consecutive game with seven made field goals. Senior
Brody Robinson posted a career-high 11 assists while contributing 13 points, shooting 40% from three, and two steals. Fifth-year
Michael Houge also scored 13 points, hitting six of 10 field goals, and recorded two blocks from the boards. Fifth-year
Brett White II tallied 13 points, converting four three-pointers from 10 attempts to lead Oakland from the arc.
The Golden Grizzlies started the first half with a three-pointer by Robinson, assisted by Houge, establishing an early lead. Despite turnovers, Oakland managed to keep pace with the Jaguars through effective shooting and defensive stops in the paint, including a timely steal by fifth-year
Tuburu Naivalurua. Oakland stayed competitive with consistent scoring in the paint and fast breaks, highlighted by layups from Garrett and redshirt-freshman
Warren Marshall IV. However, the IU Indy maintained a slight edge, capitalizing on offensive rebounds and assists to close the half with a 54-44 lead.
The Jaguars opened the second half with a quick dunk, but Oakland responded swiftly as Houge scored a layup at 18:59. White II added a three-pointer at 17:41, cutting the deficit to its lowest at six points. Despite Oakland's defensive efforts, including a steal by Garrett at 10:48, the Jaguars maintained their scoring pace and extended the lead.
Oakland found success in fast-break situations, with senior
Ziare Wells and Marshall contributing points off turnovers. However, the Jaguars' offensive run proved challenging to halt. While Oakland closed the half with a three-pointer from Wells at 0:23, the Jaguars finished ahead, leaving an 18 point deficit.
Greg Kampe and the Golden Grizzlies will head down I-75 for the first installment of the Metro Series with Detroit Mercy inside Calihan Hall on Saturday, Jan. 24. Tipoff on ESPN+ is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
