ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Golden Grizzlies men's and women's indoor track and field kicks off 2026 with their first meet of the year at the Al Campbell Invitational, hosted at the University of Akron.
Oakland track and field opened the indoor season with strong performances across two December meets, placing 11 student-athletes in the top five. Junior Kylei Anderson highlighted the action with a first-place finish in the women's 60m hurdles (8.68), while sophomore Tyler Donovan delivered a standout effort by breaking his own school record in the men's 800m with a time of 1:51.13. At Grand Valley State, sophomore Lauren Goodman worked her way to fifth in the 60m (7.64), and fifth-year Catherine Leahy finished second in the 400m (57.43). Distance runners Hannah Fisher, Mackenzie Lemke, and Makenna Scott also recorded top-five finishes in their respective events.
On the men's side, sophomore Pierce Grzymkowski followed Donovan with a fourth-place finish in the 800m (1:53.62), while freshman Collin McLaughlin placed fourth in the mile (4:20.19). In field events at SVSU's Holiday Open, senior Jamie Giese took second in the shot put (14.46m) and junior Elizabeth Rice finished fifth in the weight throw (17.45m). Throwers Connor Cherney and Blake Foster earned top-10 marks in the men's shot put, while pole vaulters Genna Golab and Simon Griemert added solid performances to round out a successful weekend for the Golden Grizzlies.
In December, the Horizon League announced the Golden Grizzlies Men's Indoor Track and Field team was slated to finish third for the first time since 2022 and Women's team was set to place fourth for the third consecutive year in the annual Under Armour Indoor #HLTF Preseason Poll.
Competition begins at 3 p.m. with field events, followed by running events at 3:45 p.m. ET. Live timing for the meet is available HERE.
