YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Oakland Golden Grizzlies Track and Field team completed the 2026 Horizon League Indoor Championships, as the men finished in fourth place, while the women wrapped up the meet with a sixth-place team finish. The Black and Gold saw 11 top-3 finishes throughout the two-day meet, as the women also had runner-ups in the pentathlon and shot put.
On Saturday, Kylei Anderson took home second place in the women's pentathlon with 3743 points and a first-place finish in the shot put event with an 11.77m throw. In the field events, Simon Griemert made his way on the podium with a 4.55m clearance in the men's pole vault for sixth place, as Genna Golab cleared 3.47m on the women's side in the event.
Blake Foster threw 16.91m in the weight throw for fifth-place on the men's side, as Desteny DeJarnett earned a bronze medal with a 16.74m weight throw. Both relay squads found top-three marks to close out the evening in Youngstown. The men's 4000m distance medley group (J. Nowik, B. Nowik, McLaughlin, Hancock) clocked in at 10:00.21 for a third-place finish. The women (Bissett, Walker, Fisher, Bush) also made their way on the podium with an 11:55.83 in the distance medley.
In Sunday's events, Jamie Giese continued her hot streak in the indoor shot put this season as she threw for 14.16m and earned a silver medal in the championship. Foster finished fourth with a 15.83m mark, followed by Conner Cherney with 13.83m.
In the sprints, Anderson made her way back to the podium in the 60m hurdles, clocking in at 8.55 for a personal best. Lauren Goodman ran 7.66 in the women's 60m, while Evan Bryan podiumed at a sub-7-second finish, clocking in at 6.99 for third place on the men's side. Ja-Van Poole capitalized on a top mark this year, earning third place in the 400m dash with a 47.85 final.
Pierce Grzymkowski ran the 800m race in 1:52.73 for another third-place finish for the Black and Gold, while freshman distance standout, Eliza Bush, clocked 9:44.91 in the women's 3000m event and podiumed for third place. Oakland wrapped up the meet with another top-three finish in the relays, as the men's 4x400 group (Donovan, Grzymkowski, Stewart, Poole) crossed the finish at 3:16.75 and a third-place result.
