ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Golden Grizzlies women's soccer team hits the road to take on the Wright State Raiders in a weekend conference matchup.
Oakland earned its first conference points of the season last time out, playing to a 1-1 draw against Cleveland State (9/21). In the match,
Mallory Anderson scored her second goal of the season, joining
Brae Cole as the only Golden Grizzlies with multiple goals this year.
Isabella Bierod also had a standout game, adding an assist to her tally and using her speed and effort to make an impact as a valuable rotation piece for Oakland.
Oakland is searching for its first win since beating Mercyhurst 4-2 on Aug. 21. Despite the stretch without a victory—marked by draws and close matches—the Golden Grizzlies are looking to build on those performances.
In seven of their ten games, the Golden Grizzlies have out-possessed their opponents, showing the on-ball control needed to succeed. Their ability to press opposing teams in their own third of the field has led to a flurry of chances throughout the season.
The Raiders enter the weekend with a 6-5 record, going a perfect 3-0 in conference play after beating IU Indy 3-2 on Thursday (9/25).
Wright State has tallied the second-most shots on goal (66) and the third-most goals (16) of any Horizon League team.
The Golden Grizzlies are looking to avoid a three-game head-to-head losing streak against the Raiders. In last season's meeting, Oakland fell 0-3 at home despite tallying the same number of shots (15) as Wright State.
This Sunday's match will kick off at 3 p.m. in Dayton, Ohio, and will be streamed on ESPN+.
