The Golden Grizzlies and Buckeyes will meet under the lights in the second game of the Wolstein Classic.
Ohio State enters the match 0-1 after a season-opening loss to Virginia Tech. The Buckeyes, who went 16-2-4 in 2024 and reached the NCAA College Cup semifinals, host the event and will look to pick up their first win of 2025.
The programs last met in 2017, when Oakland secured a 1-0 win. Despite a 2-12-2 all-time record against the Buckeyes, Oakland has won two of the last three meetings, both in Rochester. The Golden Grizzlies will be searching for their first-ever win at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Ohio State is led by Thomas Gilej, Luciano Pechota and Marko Borkovic — the team's top scorers from 2024 with five goals apiece — all of whom were named to the Big Ten Preseason Watch List.
A potent Buckeyes attack will face an Oakland defense anchored by veteran returners.
Sunday, Aug. 31 vs. Dayton | 4 p.m. | BTN+
Oakland will close the Wolstein Classic with another ranked matchup against the Dayton Flyers. The two teams have a history of competitive meetings, with Oakland holding a 6-5-5 all-time advantage across 16 games.
Only three of those contests have been decided by more than two goals. The Golden Grizzlies are 5-2-3 in their last 10 against Dayton, including a 3-0 win at home in their most recent matchup in 2021.
Dayton is 1-0-1 to start the year after a season-opening tie with Detroit Mercy and a decisive 4-0 win over No. 20 Western Michigan. The Flyers have yet to concede a goal this season, led defensively by Top Drawer Soccer Preseason All-American third-team selection Martin Bakken and All-Freshman honoree Maxim Scordo.
In 2024, Dayton went 14-3-3 and reached the NCAA College Cup quarterfinals, including an unbeaten 3-0-2 record on the road.
