Men's Soccer Ties with DePaul as Gjokaj Nets First Career Goal

CHICAGO, ILL. - Oakland and DePaul University  played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday at Wish Field, with Gabe Gjokaj and Sebastian Stanaj making big impacts on the game for the Golden Grizzlies in their second match of the season.
The first half commenced with Tal Rokah taking an early shot just 22 seconds into the match, setting an aggressive tone for Oakland. Despite several attempts, including a notable shot from Andriy Bilous in the 19th minute, the Golden Grizzlies were unable to find the back of the net.
In his first career start, Stanaj was up to the test, making four saves including a crucial one in the 38th minute helped maintain a scoreless tie, as both teams ended the half without scoring.
Oakland came out in the second half with the same intensity as the start of the match,  this time striking gold in the 56th minute as freshman Gabe Gjokaj scored his first collegiate goal, marking a brief 1-0 lead.
DePaul would quickly equalize with a goal from Keagan Pace in the 57th minute, knotting the game at one goal apiece.
Stanaj played a crucial role for the Golden Grizzlies, making more key saves, notably at the 54th and 70th minutes, along with several punch-outs and cross denials as he stood tall in goal for Oakland.
Andriy Bilous led Oakland with four shots and two on target as the teams nearly equaled each other in shots (Oakland's 15 to DePaul's 16) and shots on goal (Oakland's 3 to DePaul's 5). Stanaj's four saves marked a career-high, while facing 16 shots.
Christopher Jean Leger contributed offensively  as well with two shots, one of which was on goal.
The next challenge for Oakland takes them to Columbus, OH, where they will face Ohio State University on August 28 at 7 p.m.
