Poole and Giese Break Program Records in Big Weekend for Track and Field

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies finished a busy weekend after competing in three meets, seeing success in all of them as a pair of school records were broken.

Penn Relays | Thursday, Apr. 24

Oakland traveled four runners to the Penn Relays to compete in the 5000m and 10000m races on Thursday night.

Erin Hegarty began the night competing in the women's 5000m, finishing with a time of 16:53.32. For the men's 5000m, Yami Albrecht (14:20.68) and Anthony Hancock (14:34.72) took the track and both placed in the top 15 of their heats.

The Golden Grizzlies saw the best performance last, as Grace Nolan finished the night with a fourth place finish in the women's 10000m, clocking in at 34:14.11 as she earned the second fastest time in program history.

Louisville Clark Wood Open | Friday, Apr. 25 & Saturday Apr. 26

The weekend only got better for Oakland as another group of student-athletes traveled to Louisville for a two-day stint.

Ja-Van Poole continued a dominant season in the 400m hurdles, placing first while breaking his own program record, which he set last week, with a time of 50.04s. This time also moved him into the ninth spot for the top ten fastest times in the NCAA this season.

Jamie Giese also broke records, using a toss of 14.27m in the shot put to break the Oakland program record in the event.

Other personal bests included Evan Bryan (10.79s) and Xavier Davis (11.04s) in the men's 100m dash, Jaylin Washington (12.31s) in the women's 100m dash, Julian Bailey's top ten finish in the men's 200m (21.32s), and Davis once again, but this time in the triple jump (13.49m).

GVSU Extra Weekend Meet | Saturday, Apr. 26

Oakland sent another batch to Grand Valley State on Saturday, seeing even more success on the track.

For the women, A'naia Herd earned the silver spot in the women's 400m dash with a time of 58.15s, followed shortly by Olivia Reynolds (1:00.39) who placed sixth.

Ashley Quinn took the top spot in the women's 800m, crossing the line after 2:10.46, while Karenna Duffey placed fifth at 2:14.08.

Alexa Messina closed out the women's section in the field, placing fourth in the pole vault with a highest mark of 3.66.

On the men's side, Michael and Anthony Hancock matched with top ten finishes in the men's 1500m, with Michael placing fifth (3:49.37) and Anthony ninth (3:51.33).

TJ Brooks earned a top ten finish in the men's 800m, stopping the clock at 1:51.39, and Simon Griemert earned Oakland's last top ten finish of the weekend in the pole vault with a highest mark of 4.16m.

Oakland competes in their final meet of the regular season next, heading to Columbus for the Ohio State Jesse Ownens Invite on May 2-3.
