Golden Grizzlies Look to Continue Tournament Run as they Head to Green Bay to Tackle Phoenix

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Golden Grizzlies face another road test as they head to Green Bay to face the number one seed Phoenix in the Horizon League Championship Quarterfinals.

In their win against IU Indianapolis on Tuesday, their defense was at the top of it's game, forcing the Jags into more turnovers (20) than made field goals (16), as well as holding IU Indy to just four fourth quarter points.

They also saw impact on the offensive end from several key sources. Maddy Skorupski continued her late season resurgence on the offensive end, scoring 25 points, but Kylie Buckley, Dani Grim, and Madison Royal-Davis all added valuable contributions as well.

Royal-Davis has left everything out on the floor, grabbing 42 boards and eight steals over the last three games, anchoring the defense and instilling a hustle mentality with the team.

That mentality will be needed as Oakland faces their toughest challenge of the season in Green Bay, who are currently riding a 19-game winning streak and who Oakland has only beaten once in their last ten meetings.

The Phoenix have held Oakland to below 40 points in both matchups this season, but Oakland's offense has been humming as of late, scoring 60 in two of their last three games while shooting close to .400 from the field in two of those games as well.

Oakland will be tasked with containing All-League players Natalie Mcneal (13.2 points per game) and Maddy Schreiber (12.1 points per game), while dealing with the defensive player of the year in the conference in Bailey Butler and All-Defensive Team honoree Jasmine Kondrakiewicz.

With the dangerous duo of Smith and Skorupski playing at the top of their games, along with a defense that is playing with intensity and physicality, the matchup is sure to be the pinnacle of March college hoops.

Catch the Quarterfinal matchup on Thursday, Mar. 6 at 8 p.m. ET, streamed on ESPN+.
