AKRON, Ohio - The Golden Grizzlies baseball team fell to the Akron Zips, 11-5, on the road this afternoon at Skeels Field.
The Golden Grizzlies (3-11, 0-0 HL) were led by
John Lauinger who tallied three hits and two RBI, as
Boston Halloran matched with a trio of hits.
The Zips (5-7, 0-0 MAC) had eight players record a hit as it also tallied seven strikeouts.
John Lauinger got things going in the second, as
Sam Griffith reached first off a deep single as
Boston Halloran matched with one of his own. Both runners advanced on a dual steal, as Lauinger batted Griffith in for a quick 1-0 lead. The Zips, however, answered to take the lead in the bottom of the frame with a home run.
The game went to the fourth as a
Carter Hain single took him around the bases off a groundout, followed by a long
Taylor Tomlin single to score Hain from second. The tie game was short lived as Akron added five runs in the bottom of the inning to inch ahead, 7-2.
The Golden Grizzlies settled in the bottom of the fifth and followed it up with a three-run sixth inning. Hain, once again, made his way from second to home thanks to a Halloran single, as Lauinger added to his RBI total as a double sent Halloran home. A groundout RBI capped off the inning as Tomlin, who got on by a hit by pitch, crossed the dish.
The Zips had an answer though, as it scored in its next two innings, bumping the score to 11-5, as it closed out the game in the ninth.
The Golden Grizzlies return to the diamond this weekend as it heads to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for a three-game series against Middle Tennessee, starting Friday (March 7), as all games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
