MILWAUKEE, Wis. & CHICAGO, Ill. – The Women's Tennis team kicked off Horizon League play in dominant fashion, securing back-to-back wins over Milwaukee (4-3) on Saturday and Chicago State (5-0) on Sunday.
Oakland 4, Milwaukee 3
The Golden Grizzlies edged out a tight victory against Milwaukee at River Glen Elite, with strong doubles play proving to be the difference. The pairs of
Emilia Jarvinen and
Edie Hammond (6-3), as well as,
Martyna Piechowicz and
Tara Montreuil (7-5) secured the doubles point for Oakland.
In singles,
Nisa Bulut (6-3, 6-1), Piechowicz (4-6, 6-0, 6-1), and Hammond (6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4) all claimed crucial wins to lift Oakland to victory in a match that lasted over three and a half hours. This match snapped a four game losing streak for the Golden Grizzlies in a hard-fought match.
Oakland 7, Chicago State 0
The Golden Grizzlies carried their momentum into Sunday's match at XS Tennis Village in Chicago, blanking Chicago State in dominant fashion.
Oakland swept the doubles point, behind Montreuil and Piechowicz (6-1), along with Bulut and Warisara Lee (6-0) leading the charge. In singles, the Golden Grizzlies were unstoppable, winning all five completed matches in straight sets, including Lee and Piechowicz recording perfect 6-0, 6-0 victories.
With the weekend sweep, Oakland improves to 5-8 overall and 2-0 in Horizon League play, while Chicago State remains winless at 0-8. The Golden Grizzlies will look to continue their strong form as they return to conference action.

The Golden Grizzlies will return home with a pair of matches that feature senior night. Tennis will take on Northern Kentucky, Friday, April 4th at 4:30 p.m. and IU Indianapolis, Saturday, April 5th at 4:30 p.m. at Bloomfield Tennis Facility.
