Kownacki Hits First Career Walk-Off as Oakland Outlasts Green Bay at Home

ROCHESTER, Mich. -  The Golden Grizzlies earned their first conference series win over Green Bay, winning in high-octane fashion as Kayla Turmell's heroic late-game double guided Oakland to an 11-10 win.

At the start of the game it was all Golden Grizzlies, as they scored nine runs in the first inning. Kam Troyer and Brooklyn Wyczalek began the scoring downpour with a pair of RBI singles to help Oakland go up 2-0. Alyssa Balcom would bring home two with a double, followed by a Taylor Carraway single to expand the gap to 7-0. In her second time up to bat in the inning alone, Madi Herrington would rip a triple to right field, scoring a run, and then score on a past ball in the very next at-bat as Oakland took full control of the game at 9-0 at the conclusion of the first inning.

The Phoenix would scratch away at the lead piece by piece, scoring three runs in the third and fourth innings after a bases-loaded walk scored one in the third inning, and a three-run inside the park home run by Jenna Redder gave the Phoenix some life, trailing 4-9.

Still composed, the Golden Grizzlies weren't done on the scoreboard as Carraway earned RBI number two with a single up the middle to put Oakland's run tally in the double digits for the first time this season, leading 10-4.

The Phoenix continued to claw away at the Oakland lead, using a series of sacrifice fly balls, fielder's choices, and even an error by the Oakland defense, to tie the game at 10 at the conclusion of the sixth inning.

With one last chance to get to extras or take the win, starting pitcher Kenna Bommarito was inserted back into the circle to close out the game, helping the Golden Grizzlies set up a ferocious last-inning comeback.

With two outs and a runner on second, freshman Alexa Kownacki stepped to he plate and delivered a booming double to left center field, scoring the runner and ending the thriller of a game with Oakland on top.

Kownacki finished the game 3-for-5 with the all-important game-winning RBI. Herrington finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBI, and Carraway a perfect 3-for-3 with a trio of runs batted in.

Bommarito would earn her second straight win, while also securing the save opportunity.

The Golden Grizzlies take the field for the last of their three-series home stretch on Wednesday, Apr. 2 as they host Cleary for a doubleheader.
