Bommarito Strikes out 10 as Golden Grizzlies Split Doubleheader with Phoenix

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies and the Phoenix battled it out in a pair of tough matchups, splitting the series-opening doubleheader, each winning a game on Thursday.

Game 1

The first game was dominated by Green Bay, as they piled on the runs early, stacking up three runs by the third inning to take a 3-0 lead.

In the fourth inning Emma Kreuger doubled into the right field gap, scoring another set of runs as the Phoenix took a 6-0 lead.

Madi Herrington would bring home the only score of the game for Oakland, via an RBI single in the fifth inning. Green Bay would tack on two more runs in the final inning to secure an 8-1 victory.

Game 2

The Golden Grizzlies bounced back in the finale of the day, behind an absolute dominant performance in the circle from Kenna Bommarito, who tossed a complete game and a career-high 10 strikeouts as Oakland secured a 4-2 victory.

Oakland would kick off the game and scratch the scoreboard first in this one with a big second inning as Alyssa Balcom and Kam Troyer both slammed RBI singles, while Kayla Turmell and Herrington drew bases-loaded walks to add to the tally, helping Oakland take a commanding 4-0 lead.

Green Bay would make some noise in the fourth inning as Sidney LaMot hit a two-run homer to bring the Phoenix closer, but Bommarito went back to work, retiring nine of the final ten batters she faced to close out the Oakland victory.

Herrington's solid first game continued in the second game, as she went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Bommarito also added a hit (1-for-3) as she completed a well-rounded game.
