DETROIT, Mich. – The Oakland women's tennis team faced off against Wayne State at the Duchene Athletic Facility on Sunday in a competitive dual match that featured several closely contested battles.
In doubles play, Oakland secured a win at the No. 1 position, as
Emilia Jarvinen and
Edie Hammond earned a commanding 6-3 victory. However, Wayne State claimed the other two doubles matches, giving the Warriors the doubles point.
In singles action,
Warisara "Best" Lee earned a convincing 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles, while
Martyna Piechowicz fought back for a hard-fought win at No. 5, prevailing 3-6, 6-2, 12-10 in a thrilling super tiebreak.
Despite strong efforts from Oakland, Wayne State captured wins in four singles matches to secure the overall victory.
Emilia Jarvinen and
Nisa Bulut each pushed their matches to the limit but fell in competitive three-set contests.
The Golden Grizzlies will face Milwaukee next in their Horizon League opener Saturday, March 29, at 11:00 am in Milwaukee.
