EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies comeback falls just short as it fell, 8-5, against Michigan State today at Jeff Ishbia Field at McLane Stadium.
The Golden Grizzlies (3-19, 0-3 HL) were led by both
Carter Hain and
Taylor Tomlin who had a pair of hits each as five separate Golden Grizzlies recorded a RBI. On the bump,
Tanner Ware led the team with a pair of strikeouts.
The Spartans (14-6, 1-2 Big Ten) saw Ryan McKay lead the team with four hits as Will Shannon led with a pair of RBI. Garrett Brewer led the game with four strikeouts.
The Spartans wasted no time grabbing control, jumping ahead with three runs in the first inning, capped off by a home run. Michigan State kept the pressure on, adding two more in the third, extending their lead to 7-0, before Oakland could respond.
The Golden Grizzlies finally broke through in the fourth when
Carter Hain singled and made his way around the base pads after
Taylor Tomlin drove him in from a single. The Spartans answered, however, and tacked on two more in the bottom of the frame.
Oakland didn't count itself out though as
Carter Hain ripped a RBI double to bring home
Brandon Nigh, who got on base from a double, and
Jack Lux added a run, cutting the deficit to 7-3.
Oakland wasn't done there as in the eighth inning, the Golden Grizzlies rallied again.
Boston Halloran brought home Hain, as a single, followed by a throwing error, brought Lux home to make it a two-run game in the middle of the eighth frame. Michigan State added one more in the bottom of the inning to make it a three-run game, as the comeback fell short as Oakland was held scoreless in the ninth, falling, 8-5.
