Women's Basketball Hits the Road For Crucial Matchups Against the Mastodons and Vikings

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies are flying high after last week's win over Detroit Mercy, and they look to keep their momentum moving upwards as they play what may be their toughest two-game stretch of the season, as they hit the road to face Purdue Fort Wayne and Cleveland State this week.

Oakland is playing their best basketball of the season since they started conference play 4-0. Over their last pair of games they have shot just under .430 from the floor and gone nearly .800 from the free throw line, showing their offensive aggressiveness.

On the defensive side, they forced Detroit into a season-high 27 turnovers, using a stifling full court press that disrupts opposing teams ball handlers.

THURSDAY, FEB. 6 @ PURDUE FORT WAYNE | 7 PM | ESPN+

The blistering hot Mastodons sit at the top of the league with a perfect 13-0 conference record, riding a 15-game winning streak.

Oakland has won four out of their last five games at the Gates Sports Center, but the team is looking for their first win against the Mastodons in four games.

This matchup is a battle between two of the top five offenses in the conference, with Purdue Fort Wayne ranking second in field goal percentage (.442), and first in points per game (77.4) and three point percentage (.365). The Golden Grizzlies rank fourth in field goal percentage (.405).

This game will also feature of two of the top players in the Horizon League as Maddy Skorupski, who ranks second in the league in points per game at 17.6, faces off against the third highest scorer (16.6 ppg) in Lauren Ross.

SATURDAY, FEB. 8 @ CLEVELAND STATE | 12 PM | ESPN+

The Golden Grizzlies look to sweep the series with the Vikings for the first time since the 2013-14 season, after Oakland delivered a 71-68 upset over Cleveland State last month. In that game Skorupski and Macy Smith combined for 47 points and seven made threes as Oakland shot .500 from the floor (27-of-54 FG).

The Vikings sit one spot ahead of the Golden Grizzlies in the conference standings, holding a 9-3 league record.

Cleveland State has won four of their last five games entering the week, beating Milwaukee 89-81 on Feb. 1.

The Vikings are another high-powered offensive squad, ranking first in field goal percentage (.477) and second in scoring (76.6 ppg). This matchup will also see another star guard showdown, as league-leading scorer Mickayla Perdue leads the Vikings.
