HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Golden Grizzlies fell in the series finale 11-1 at Alabama A&M, still securing the series win as they complete their first of two road series down south.
Alabama A&M set the tone early, scoring three runs in the first inning. The Golden Grizzlies struggled to contain the Bulldogs' offense, as A&M exploded for six more runs in the second inning, capitalizing on walks and timely hitting.
Relief pitcher
Mia Konyvka entered in the second inning for Oakland, but was unable to halt the Bulldogs' momentum. Balcom would later step into the circle to end the inning, but not before the Bulldogs tallied seven runs in the frame.
Despite the deficit, the Golden Grizzlies managed to get on the board in the fifth inning when Taylor. Carraway singled and eventually scored, preventing a shutout.
On offense,
Alyssa Balcom provided a highlight with a double, one of six Oakland hits. However, the team left eight runners on base and struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Balcom ended the game going 1-for-3 with a double, while Carraway contributed by going 1-for-1 and scoring Oakland's only run.
Kenna Bommarito also had a hit in her lone at-bat.
The Golden Grizzlies will have a quick turnaround for their next set of games, starting what will be a four game series against the University of Northern Alabama with a pair of double headers, beginning on Friday, Feb. 28, and with the second set on Saturday, Mar. 1.
