Golden Grizzlies Dominate Double Header as they Look to Complete Series Sweep

HUNTSVILLE, Al. - The Golden Grizzlies enjoyed a fiery start to their midweek series against Alabama A&M, securing a double-header sweep of the Bulldogs in Alabama.

GAME 1

Oakland capitalized on a big fifth inning to take down Alabama A&M 3-1 on Tuesday at Bulldog Field. A strong pitching performance from Kenna Bommarito and Maraina Smith, along with timely hitting lifted the Golden Grizzlies to their third win of the season.

The game started as a defensive battle, with both teams unable to score through the first four innings. Bommarito, who came in early to relieve Smith, kept Alabama A&M hitters off balance, combining for seven strikeouts and allowing just three hits.

Oakland's offense came alive in the top of the fifth as Annabel Power led off with a single, followed by a key triple from Madi Herrington that brought home two runs. Alyssa Balcom added an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.

Alabama A&M attempted a late rally in the bottom of the seventh when Katie Puckett launched a solo home run, but Bommarito shut down any further scoring threats to seal the victory.

Herrington led the offensive charge, going 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Plitz added a hit and a stolen base, contributing to the team's game-sealing fifth inning.

GAME 2

The Golden Grizzlies continued their strong day with a well-earned 5-2 victory over Alabama A&M in game number two of the series. After a slow start offensively, the Golden Grizzlies broke through in the fourth inning and never looked back, riding key performances at the plate and dominant pitching to secure their fourth win of the season.

The game began as a pitching duel, with both teams unable to capitalize on early base runners. Oakland starter Alyssa Balcom held Alabama A&M in check for the first two innings, stranding runners and inducing groundouts to keep the Bulldogs off the board.

The Bulldogs struck first in the bottom of the third, pushing across a run to take a 1-0 lead. However, Oakland's patience and persistence paid off in the fourth inning when the bats came alive.

Trailing 1-0, Oakland responded in the top of the fourth with a three-run rally. Kayla. Turmell delivered in the clutch, driving in two runs to give the Golden Grizzlies their first lead of the game. Moments later, a well-placed sacrifice fly from Brooklyn Wyczalek added another run, extending the lead to 3-1.

The Golden Grizzlies continued their offensive momentum in the fifth and sixth innings. Kam Troyer came through with an RBI groundout in the fifth to push the lead to 4-1. In the sixth, a key RBI single from Plitz provided Oakland with a 5-2 cushion, solidifying their grip on the game.

On the defensive side, Balcom kept Alabama A&M's offense contained, finishing her outing with 4.1 innings pitched while allowing just one earned run, combining with Kenna Bommarito who took over in relief and was lights-out, striking out five over 2.2 scoreless innings while earning the save.

Balcom (2-for-3) and Turmell (2-for-2) shined at the plate with multiple hits in game two, giving the defense the run support it needed to come out with a win.

The Golden Grizzlies look to complete the series sweep with one more win tomorrow at 2 p.m.
