INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Oakland University swimming and diving teams delivered standout performances Friday at the Horizon League Championships, securing multiple top finishes to keep the Golden Grizzlies atop the leader boards.
On the women's side,
Jordyn Shipps led the way in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking a winning time of 53.23.
Rhianna Hensler followed closely behind, finishing second at 54.46.
Kaitlyn Killinger (55.45),
Sophia Davis (56.25), and
Mia Keranen (56.40) also placed in the top eight to add key points for the Golden Grizzlies.
In the men's 100-yard butterfly,
Sofus Balladone captured first place with a time of 47.10.
Auben Nugent (47.95) and
Micah Scheffer (48.09) rounded out Oakland's presence in the final, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively.
The Golden Grizzlies continued their success in the 200-yard freestyle as
Mia Englender finished second in the women's event at 1:50.08, while
Erika Pietras (1:50.77) and
Sam Thiessen (1:51.96) contributed with top-six finishes. On the men's side,
Jonas Cantrell took second place in 1:35.95, followed by Karel Subagyo in fourth (1:36.66) and Joey Countryman in sixth (1:37.64).
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Bella Gary earned third place for the Oakland women, touching the wall in 1:03.57.
Christopher Palvadre secured a victory in the men's event with a time of 52.83, with Alex Lakin placing second at 53.85.
Oakland added another first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke as freshman
Grace Albrecht claimed the title in 54.19. Kate Teng (57.21) and
Alyssia Betancourt (57.08) also secured spots in the top 10. On the men's side,
Harry Nicholson led a dominant performance for the Golden Grizzlies, winning in 46.62, while
Max Haney (47.82) and
Jack Wike (48.20) followed in second and third, respectively.
The Horizon League Championships conclude Saturday as Oakland looks to continue its push for the team title.
