ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Golden Grizzlies prepare for game number three of the season as they host Miami (OH) on the Blacktop on Monday.
Oakland returns home after a hard-fought game against the Wisconsin Badgers on Wednesday, where they fell 68-79. In the game, Oakland hit 11 threes (11-for-29 3FG), led by five triples from
Cali Denson, who is on fire to start the season, averaging 19 points per game on .619 field-goal shooting and .643 (9-for-14 3FG) from beyond the arc.
Makenzie Luehring (13 ppg) and
Angie Smith (11 ppg) combined for 29 points in the game as well, establishing an absolutely dynamic backcourt rotation for Oakland.
As a team, Oakland is 11-for-29 (.377 3FG%) from three this season. Adding that to a fast-paced style that thrives on forcing turnovers and running in transition, the Golden Grizzlies are establishing their identity early. Oakland hosts the RedHawks for just the fifth time in program history and the first time since 2023-24, when Miami (OH) earned a 68-66 win on an overtime buzzer-beater. The teams have split the four meetings with two wins apiece, while the RedHawks have won two of the last three matchups.
Miami (OH) has started the season hot, going 2-0 while winning both contests by double digits, notably routing Cedarville 88-49 in their last outing. The RedHawks are led by junior forward Amber Tretter, who through two games is averaging 13 points, 1.5 steals, one block, and 10.5 rebounds per game.
Monday's game is slated for 6:30 p.m. on the Blacktop in Rochester, Mich., and will be streamed on ESPN+.
