ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Oakland's swim and dive team returned home from Canham Natatorium after facing No. 10 Michigan and Pitt, concluding their Power Four matchups for the regular season.
The Golden Grizzlies fell to both the Wolverines and the Panthers on Friday afternoon. Michigan, ranked No. 10, and Pitt, both in Swim Cloud's top 50, provided Oakland with an early-season challenge, preparing them for the Horizon League and NCAA Championships.
The men's team kicked off scoring for the Black and Gold, taking second in the 200 medley relay. Harry Nicholson, Christopher Palvadre, Max Haney, and Charles Brown finished with a time of 1:30.35, just edging out Pitt's top team. Palvadre then secured Oakland's first individual podium finish, coming second in the 100 breast (54.87). Teammates Carson Ricker (5th) and Alexander Lakin (7th) also outswam their Pitt competitors. Micah Scheffer tied for third in the 50 free, matching Pitt's Donat Fabian at 20.43
Freshman Lydia Soldatke continued her impressive season, taking third in the 200 back (2:00.13). Soldatke recently won and set a pool record in the same event at Oakland's tri-meet against Cincinnati and Purdue, highlighting her ability to compete with the top swimmers in the country. Like Ricker and Lakin, Charisse Hickman outperformed Pitt's lineup, finishing fourth in the 200 breast (2:18.82), just behind Michigan swimmers.
Adding more top-three finishes, Palvadre claimed third in the 200 breast (2:02.48), while Nicholas Karel Subagyo earned his first placement of the meet by finishing third in the 500 free (4:31.40). Scheffer secured another third-place finish in the 100 fly (49.65). To wrap up the meet, Soldatke earned her second third-place finish in the 200 IM (2:09.07), and Nicholson, Palvadre, Joseph Countryman, and Brown took third in the 400 free relay (3:02.39).
