ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland University swimming and diving team travels to Ann Arbor to face Michigan and Pittsburgh on Friday, Nov. 7 for their second Power 4 tri-meet. The meet will begin at 3 PM at the Canham Natatorium and will be streamed live on B1G+.
WOMEN'S PREVIEW
The Oakland women (1-2, 1-0 HL) fell to Cincinnati and Purdue in their home opener at the OU Aquatic Center. Over the course of the two-day meet, the Golden Grizzlies reached the podium six times across 19 events. Freshman Lydia Soldatke achieved their only first-place finish in the 200 back, setting a new pool record.
Soldatke, along with Victoria Sanders, were named #HLSD Swimmer and Diver of the Week on Wednesday for their respective performances at the tri-meet.
MEN'S PREVIEW
The Oakland men (2-1, 1-0 HL) split their last tri-meet, defeating the Bearcats 192.5-154.5, but falling to Purdue. OU finished top three in nearly every event and claimed four victories.
Christopher Palvadre won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, while
Nicholas Karel Subagyo took first in the 200 and 1000 freestyle.
Palvadre was named #HLSD Swimmer of the Week for his wins and relay contributions. Freshman Owen Cox was recognized as #HLSD Diver of the Week, completing a sweep of the weekly awards for Oakland.
SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
The Michigan women (4-0, 3-0 Big Ten) recently defeated Northwestern 205-92 and No. 23 UCLA 193-103 at home. The Wolverines currently hold several top national performances. Bella Sims leads the nation in the 100 back (49.87) and ranks second in the 200 free (1:41.43), as well as contributing to the No. 2-ranked 400 medley relay. Hannah Bellard is third nationally in the 200 fly and fifth in the 400 IM, while Brady Kendall ranks seventh in the 50 free.
Friday will mark the 21st meeting between Oakland and Michigan, with Michigan leading the series 19-1. The Golden Grizzlies last faced the Wolverines in the 2024-25 season in a duel meet, competing with the men to earn a total combined score of 92 points to Michigan's 202.
For the men, the Wolverines (3-0, 2-0 Big Ten) won against Northwestern 186-114. Freshman Luka Mladenovic and senior Tyler Ray will be the athletes to pay attention to, as they both hold top times in the nation. Mladenovic currently ranks sixth in the nation in the 100 breast with a time of 51.86, and Ray's time of 45.75 in the 100 fly ranks 10th in the country.
Michigan has won all 20 previous men's meetings against the Golden Grizzlies. In last year's duel meet, key performances from the Black and Gold include Subagyo taking second place with a time of 4:34.73 in the 500 free, and Micah Sheffer placing second in the 100 free.
Both Michigan's men's and women's teams are currently ranked No. 10 among Division I programs.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
The Panther women (3-0, 0-0 ACC) recently defeated Penn State 218–77 for their first home win over the Nittany Lions since the 1988–89 season. Along with Michigan, Pitt holds some top times in the country. Sydney Gring currently ranks sixth nationally in the 100 fly (51.62), and Claire Jansen is 13th in the 100 back (51.92).
Pitt's men (3-0, 0-0 ACC) also bested the Nittany Lions 182.5–115, combining with the women for 21 event wins and setting three program and three pool records. Julian Koch set new school and pool records in the 100 free (41.85), currently ranked fifth in the country, and Alan Vergine broke records in the 200 fly (1:42.49), ranking 12th nationally.
This will be Oakland's third time competing against the Panthers. Pitt currently holds the series 2-0 for both the men and women, with the last matchup between the two schools being held during the 2005-06 season.
