Oakland Sweeps #HLSD Athletes of the Week

ROCHESTER, Mich. – For the first time this season, the Oakland University swimming and diving team sweeps the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week awards.

The league announced on Wednesday that Lydia Soldatke and Christopher Palvadre earned Women's and Men's Swimmers of the Week honors, while Owen Cox and Victoria Sanders were named Divers of the Week for their performances during the week of Oct. 29 - Nov. 4 at Oakland's home tri-meet home opener against Cincinnati and Purdue.

Lydia Soldatke adds a second #HLSD Women's Swimmer of the Week to her accomplishments this season. After setting three pool records at Youngstown State, she broke another at home in the OU Aquatic Center. The freshman won the 200 back in 1:56.09 – a new record by 0.23 seconds. Soldatke also placed second in the 100 back (53.63) and helped the 400 free relay team to a third-place finish (3:22.85).

Senior Chris Palvadre picks up his first #HLSD Men's Swimmer of the Week honor of the year after outstanding performances in the breaststroke events and relays. The former #HLSD breaststroke champion claimed victories in both the 100 breast (52.70) and 200 breast (1:56.77), continuing to show his dominance in the races. Palvadre also contributed to four top-three relay finishes: second in the 400 free (2:56.72), 400 medley (3:11.57), and 200 free (1:20.15), and third in the 200 medley (1:27.26).

Victoria Sanders earns her first #HLSD Women's Diver of the Week award for her efforts against Cincinnati and Purdue, finishing fourth in the 1-Meter (278.70) and 3-Meter (243.55) dives. The senior was the top performer among all Oakland and Cincinnati divers in both events.

Freshman Owen Cox secures his first-ever #HLSD Men's Diver of the Week award in just his second collegiate meet. As Oakland's sole male diver in the tri-meet, Cox finished seventh in the 3-Meter (244.30) and eighth in the 1-Meter (245.00) events.

This week's #HLSD honors highlight the Golden Grizzlies' hard work and determination after facing two Power Four schools, including the #25-ranked Purdue Boilermakers men's team. The tough competition continues, as both teams head to Ann Arbor to face the Michigan Wolverines, currently ranked sixth among Division I women and 17th among Division I men.
