Women's Basketball Falls to Crimson in First Game of Raising the B.A.R Invitational

BERKELEY, Cal. — Oakland fell to Harvard University , 93-55, at Haas Pavilion in game number one of the Raising the B.A.R Invitational.

Oakland opened the quarter with a strong defensive effort, logging two blocks and limiting the Crimson to just five made field goals. Filippa Goula's jumper at 7:11, assisted by Makenzie Luehring, put Oakland on the board and gave them their first lead.

The Crimson capitalized on these opportunities, using a series of free throws and a 3-pointer by Nina Emnace to build momentum. Their efficiency from the free-throw line, converting 10 of 11 attempts, helped them extend their lead. Oakland managed to cut into the deficit with a 3-pointer by Cali Denson at 4:31, bringing the score closer at 12–7. However, the Crimson closed the quarter on a strong note, extending their advantage to 22–9 by the end of the first.

Oakland began the second quarter with a strong defensive play from Denson, who blocked a layup attempt, setting the tone early. Sereniti Roberts-Adams contributed significantly by scoring a layup and two free throws, helping Oakland close the gap. Goula kept the momentum by scoring multiple times from the paint, while Luehring added two free throws and a jumper to further cut into the deficit.

Despite Oakland's efforts, the Crimson maintained their lead. The quarter concluded with Oakland trailing 41–27, as the Crimson's consistent offense slightly increased their lead.

Oakland entered the third quarter looking to close the gap but faced a challenging stretch. Despite strong efforts in the paint, scoring 10 points there, Oakland struggled with turnovers, committing six during the quarter. Angie Smith contributed with critical layups, but the team's shooting was limited to 5-of-11 from the field.

The Crimson capitalized on turnovers and perimeter shooting, making seven 3-pointers in the quarter and building their momentum. Oakland managed to score from the free-throw line, going 5-for-5, yet the Crimson's offensive efficiency allowed them to extend their lead. The quarter closed with the Crimson leading 70–42.

Oakland initiated the fourth quarter with an early layup by Lianna Baxter, assisted by Smith, but faced a challenging stretch thereafter. The Crimson quickly countered with a 3-pointer by Katie Krupa, contributing to a significant scoring run that widened the gap.

Despite efforts from Oakland, including a layup by Goula and free throws by Jasmine "Jazzy" Dupree-Hebert, turnovers hindered further momentum. Karinna Trotter's defensive rebound and subsequent free throw kept Oakland competing, but the Crimson maintained control through consistent scoring.

As the quarter progressed, Oakland's attempts to close the deficit with points from Goula and Dupree-Hebert were met with strong defensive plays from the Crimson. The quarter concluded with the Crimson extending their lead, resulting in a final score of 93-55 in their favor.

Goula led the team with 11 points, converting five of her 12 field goal attempts and adding four rebounds. Smith matched her with 11 points, making four field goals and three free throws, while collecting three rebounds. Denson contributed defensively with two blocks and one steal, in addition to scoring five points. Trotter was active on the boards, recording six rebounds along with three points.

Oakland will play in the consolation game of the invitational at 8 p.m. ET.
