Oakland Looks to Pack the Pool Against Cincinnati and Purdue

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland University swimming and diving team hosts their first meet of the season at the OU Aquatic Center, facing Cincinnati and Purdue over Halloween weekend in a Power 4 matchup.

The tri-meet will begin at 4 PM on Oct. 31 at the OU Aquatic Center, with Halloween treats available for spectators upon arrival. Competition continues the next day, Nov. 1, starting at 10 AM. Both visiting teams travel to Rochester after Oakland competed at their campuses over the past two seasons.

WOMEN'S PREVIEW
In Oakland's season-opener against Youngstown State, the women secured wins on both days of competition. Day one featured first-place finishes in the 200 medley, 400 medley, 200 breaststroke, and a sweep in the backstroke events. The women edged out the Penguins 150-130 after the first day of competition.

Day two showcased dominance from the Golden Grizzly women. The team secured a 187-94 win, bringing the two-day total to 337-224. Oakland posted several one-two finishes, including the 400 IM and 50 freestyle.

Lydia Soldatke will be the swimmer to watch, having earned #HLSD Swimmer of the Week after winning six of eight events in her first collegiate competition.

MEN'S PREVIEW
The Oakland men also secured wins against the Penguins during their opener. Day one saw victories from veterans Nicholas Karel Subagyo, Christopher Palvadre, and Harry Nicholson, leading to a 167-114 team win.

Much like the women, the men took control on day two, outscoring the Penguins 196-85. Multiple Golden Grizzlies posted wins or contributed to sweeps in events, with Subagyo and Palvadre adding to their tallies. Freshman Ajjuub Ezzat joined the fun by winning the 50 back, 100 back, and 100 IM.

SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS
The Purdue women are coming off a win at home against Missouri, 184-116, with 12 event victories, including one-two sweeps in seven events. Diver Daryn Wright has earned Big Ten Diver of the Week twice this season and now holds the school record for the most with nine. Wright, alongside swimmer Abby Marcukaitis, were selected from Purdue to represent the Boilermakers on the Big Ten's preseason watchlist.

Oakland last met against Purdue during the 2023-24 season in West Lafayette. The women totaled 74 points to Purdue's 279, led by top-eight finishes from Mia Englender and Nora Molnar.

On the men's side, the Boilermakers have won their last two meets, finishing first at the Dan Ross Indiana Intercollegiate and defeating Missouri 192-108 at home. In their meet against the Tigers, they earned 11 event wins, with six of the events being one-two sweeps. Currently, Purdue ranks 25th in Division I according to Swim Cloud. Swimmer Blake Rowe earned Big Ten Swimmer of the Week after their home opener at the FSU Fall Classic, and Alex Hotta and Max Miller represent the men on the Big Ten's preseason watchlist.

When the men competed in West Lafayette, they came up just short against Purdue, finishing with a score of 142.5-197.5. The Golden Grizzlies earned multiple second-place finishes, but it wasn't enough to secure the win.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
The Cincinnati women won their home opener over Miami (OH), 199-101. The Bearcats took control of the relay events, claiming victory in every single one. During diving, Cincy went one-two in the 3-meter, with Campbell Lively qualified for the NCAA Zone cut with her first-place score of 218.55. Last year, Oakland traveled to Cincinnati for a one-day meet, where the women fell to the Bearcats, 79-221.

The men took the crown against the RedHawks, winning 175-125, along with the women. Diver Ramez Diaa earned Big 12 Diver of the Week after his 3-meter dive victory and second-place 1-meter finish. Both dives qualified Diaa for the NCAA Zone Cut, who will join Lively and Noah Green. Like the women, the men also swept the RedHawks in every single relay. During the men's visit to Cincinnati last season, they fell 137-16.
