ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Golden Grizzlies look to keep their momentum going as the conference schedule progresses, hosting Purdue Fort Wayne (PFW) on Saturday.
Oakland's last two matches have ended in 1-1 draws, most recently against Wright State (Sept. 28). The Golden Grizzlies' attack has shown an uptick in those contests, with offensive aggression making a resurgence.
Brae Cole and
Mallory Anderson have accounted for all eight of Oakland's goals this season, with Cole tallying the second-most goals (6) in the conference and Anderson adding a pair.
In their all-time series, the Golden Grizzlies have dominated the Mastodons, going 8-3-2, including five wins by a margin of three goals or more. Despite their historical edge, Oakland is still seeking its first win over PFW since 2021, with last season's matchup ending in a 3-2 loss.
The Mastodons have struggled this season, holding a 1-9-1 (0-3 HL) record and riding a six-game losing streak. PFW has also had trouble finding the back of the net, being shut out seven times. The Mastodons have scored just one more goal (9) than Oakland (8) this season but have struggled defensively, allowing the third-most goals (28) of any team in the conference.
They are led by junior forward Morgan Gallagher, who paces the team in goals (2), assists (2), shots (16), and shots on goal (7).
Oakland will also celebrate Senior Day this weekend, honoring
Frankie Mudd,
Shannon Brown,
Rose Gevanthor,
Anuhea Aluli,
Marina Downing,
Alli Leonard, and
Tianna Sidtikun postgame.
The match is set to kick off on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. at the Oakland Soccer Field and will be streamed on ESPN+.
