MOON TWP, Pa. — The Golden Grizzlies earned their first road victory of the season, using an offensive explosion of three goals scored to surge past Robert Morris (RMU) 3-1.
Mallory Anderson,
Bailey Giddings, and
Kimee Liu all found the back of the net as Oakland notched their third three-goal performance of the season, all ending in wins.
The first half began with Oakland applying pressure early, as
Alli Leonard and Liu each contributed shots. Oakland maintained offensive momentum, breaking through with Anderson scoring in the 21st minute with an assist from
Corinne Jenkins, establishing an early lead. This marked Anderson's third goal of the season, making her the second-highest scorer on the team.
Giddings extended Oakland's advantage in the 42nd minute scoring her first goal of the season, contributing to the team's solid first-half performance. As the half concluded, Oakland held a 2-0 lead, holding large advantages in shots (10 to 5) and shots on goal (6 to 1) over the Colonials.
The second half commenced with Oakland continuing to keep their foot on the gas, highlighted by an early shot from
Anuhea Aluli that was saved by RMU's Emma Cameron. Oakland continued to push forward, with an attempt by Liu narrowly missing the target. However, the Colonials narrowed the gap with a goal by Ava Trethewey in the 53rd minute, making it 2-1.
Oakland responded quickly, regaining a two-goal margin when Liu scored in the 63rd minute, assisted by Aluli. Despite another goal from the Colonials' Trethewey shortly after, Oakland held firm defensively, closing the match with a 3-2 victory.
Along with a goal, Giddings had two shots, with one on target, contributing significantly to the team's offensive output. Liu netted the game-winning goal, recording three shots and placing one on target. A season-best five Golden Grizzlies registered three or more shots, marking an emphasis on aggressiveness that has been showcased in their latest matches.
The Golden Grizzlies now jump Robert Morris in the standings, moving into fifth place in the conference with 10 points.
