Men's Soccer Begins Final Stretch with Face-Offs Agains Marshall and Robert Morris

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Golden Grizzlies begin a new week of play as they travel to Huntington, WV., to take on Marshall, before returning to conference action to host Robert Morris as they enter the final stretch of the season.

Oakland is coming off a 1-1 draw with Detroit Mercy on Oct. 11. The tie added one point to their conference tally, bringing the Golden Grizzlies up to seventh in the Horizon League standings, tied with Northern Kentucky at five points. Sitting just one spot outside the final postseason position, Oakland will look to control its own destiny as the Horizon League Championship approaches.

TUESDAY, OCT. 14 @ #17 MARSHALL | 7 PM | ESPN+

Oakland will face its fourth ranked opponent of the season as the Golden Grizzlies take on the Herd for the seventh time in program history.

The squads last met in 2023, when Marshall claimed a home victory. The Golden Grizzlies will aim to knock off the Herd for the first time since 2018, when they secured a 3-2 win on the road.

Marshall (5-1-4) has been ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation this season but has fallen slightly since the start of the year. Still formidable, the Herd have won their last two matches, defeating Georgia State 3-1 on Oct. 4 and routing No. 19 Kentucky 4-1 on Oct. 10.

The Herd boast a top-25 scoring offense nationally, averaging 2.11 goals per game and nearly seven shots on goal per contest.

Their attack is led by junior Joao Roberto, whose three goals and three assists give him a team-high nine points. Marshall features a balanced scoring effort, with nine other players recording multiple goals this season.

SATURDAY, OCT. 18 vs ROBERT MORRIS | 4 PM | ESPN+

Oakland returns to conference play as it hosts its third home game in the last four matches.

Entering the week, the Colonials (4-2-5, 2-0-3 HL) sit tied for second place in the conference and are one of just four squads without a loss in Horizon League play, most recently playing to a 1-1 draw with Cleveland State.

Robert Morris ranks third in the league in total goals (17), while Oakland sits third in shots on goal (64), with both teams boasting potent offenses capable of high-scoring performances.
Reigning conference champions, the Golden Grizzlies will be seeking revenge against RMU after falling to the Colonials in last year's Horizon League Championship match, where Robert Morris earned a 1-0 win to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.

That loss remains the only time in eight all-time meetings that RMU has bested Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies will look to get back on track and extend their three-game conference unbeaten streak this weekend.
