Women's Soccer Stays Unbeaten at Home in Conference Play as they Tie with Panthers

ROCHESTER, Mich. — The Golden Grizzlies extended their unbeaten streak to five games, playing Milwaukee to a scoreless draw on Sunday. Oakland has made the most of their home-field advantage this season, sitting undefeated at home in four conference games this season.

The match opened with Oakland establishing an early offensive presence as Anuhea Aluli took a shot to open the match, setting the tone for an assertive start. Oakland continued to press, putting four total shots, one on goal, in the first half.

Maryn Weiger anchored Oakland defensively once again in her second straight shutout effort, recording two saves against the Panthers' attack in the opening frame, keeping the score knotted after 45 minutes of play.

The second half began with Oakland maintaining pressure following the initial whistle. Alli Leonard and Mallory Anderson opened up the half with shots, but Kimee Liu gave Oakland their closest chance to take the lead in the 74th minute with a shot that nearly found the back of the net, but was stopped by Hollenbach.

The Golden Grizzlies defense stood tall to close the half, stopping nearly all of the Panthers' runs on goal, drawing the tie and walking away with points to add to their conference tally.

With the effort, Oakland snaps an eight-game winning streak by Milwaukee, and forces them to their first non-winning result in a conference match this season.

Weiger played a crucial role in goal, recording four saves to secure her second shutout of the season. Liu contributed offensively, leading the team with one shot on goal. Aluli also tested the opposition's defense with one shot on goal. Leonard attempted to break through the defense, leading the way with three shots in the match.

Oakland returns to the road as their next match takes them to Youngstown State University on October 16.
