Golden Grizzlies Face IU Indy at Home Before Kicking Off Three-Game Road Trip Against the Titans

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies look to quickly get back into the win column as they host IU Indianapolis, before closing the week with a crucial rivalry matchup against Detroit Mercy.

After an electric victory over Cleveland State on Jan. 3, in which Macy Smith and Maddy Skorupski combined for nearly 50 points, the Golden Grizzlies fell to the new first place squad in Purdue Fort Wayne on Jan. 5.

Even after the loss to PFW, the Golden Grizzlies are off to a fantastic start to conference play with a 4-1 record and have been one of the best teams in such games, ranking third in field goal percentage (.441) in Horizon League games.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 8 vs. IU INDIANAPOLIS | 7 PM | ESPN+

The Golden Grizzlies and the Jags will matchup for the first time this season in a matchup of the fifth seeded (Oakland) and seventh seeded (IU Indy) teams in the conference.

IU Indy has had a tumultuous start to the season, sitting with a 3-12 (2-4 HL) record.

Despite a rough start, the Jags have caught their stride, winning two of their last three games, most recently a 56-46 win over Robert Morris on Jan. 4.

Over the last three games, the Jags' pair of wins have both been by double-digits, showing they have winning components, despite being the ninth ranked offense and defense in the conference.

In recent matchups with Oakland, IU Indy has had the number of the Golden Grizzlies, winning nine of the last ten matchups between the squads, including their last meeting in March of 2024.

Oakland did steal a win over the Jags in Indianapolis last season, but the Golden Grizzlies haven't beat the Jags at home since 2012.

One area where IU Indy excels is on the offensive glass, ranking first in the Horizon League with 12.5 offensive boards per game.

Oakland will have to team rebound in this matchup, something that they are more than capable of with players like Madison Royal-Davis (5.3 rpg), Sereniti Roberts-Adams (4.3 rpg), and Lianna Baxter (4.0 rpg).

SATURDAY, JAN. 11 @ DETROIT MERCY | 1 PM | ESPN+

Oakland will start a three game road trip with a rivalry matchup against The Titans in a weekend showdown.

The Golden Grizzlies have owned the Titans in recent history, winning nine of the last ten meetings, even with Detroit's recent rise to the top of the league.

The Titans are third in the league (10-3, 4-1 HL) coming into the week. After a recent loss to Cleveland State on Jan. 5, Detroit has still been winners of four of their last five games.

They play an efficient brand of basketball, shooting a very similar percentage from the field as Oakland, .419 from the field to Oakland's .404, but where they excel is from beyond the arc. Detroit trails only Purdue Fort Wayne and Cleveland State in three point percentage, shooting .335 from deep.

With Oakland having already been tested against proficient three point shooting teams, it will be much to see if they can match the range of the Titans, who are led by former Oakland player Aaliyah McQueen.

McQueen is averaging 16.4 points per game and has become the catalyst of the team's offense in her first season as a Titan.
