ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies look to get their revenge on the Titans as they gear up for this season's second installment of the Metro Series this weekend.
Oakland is an all-time 10-3 at home against the Titans, including a dominating 89-55 win over the Titans on the Blacktop last season.
Amid a three-game losing streak, The Golden Grizzlies are searching for their offensive rhythm and for more key contributors to step up. Where they did find a bit of a spark in their recent stretch, was defensively.Â
After equipping a full court press that nearly completed a comeback against Robert Morris (1/23), forcing the Colonials into 20 turnovers, Oakland used the same press to force Youngstown State into 21 turnovers.
Over their last three games, Oakland has 30 steals compared to 21 by their opponents, 12 blocks to nine by their opponents, and a turnover margin of +1.7.Â
Against the Colonials Maddy Skorupski, who ranks in the top 20 in the nation in steals per game (3.05), had seven steals, while against the Penguins Madison Royal-Davis had a career-best eight steals.Â
In their last pair of games, Oakland has scored 41 points off turnovers, helping their offense find their rhythm in transition. With more reps, the smothering, turnover inducing press is sure to look sharper as the season goes on.
The Golden Grizzlies will be tasked with stopping the Titan's high-scoring duo of Aaliyah McQueen (16.4 ppg) and Emaia O'Brian (15.1 ppg). The duo combined for 44 points and 23 rebounds in the last meeting between the Titans and the Golden Grizzlies.
The Titans have been struggling as of late, coming into the game on a three game losing streak, falling in four of their last five games, as they suffered a 30-point loss to Northern Kentucky on Jan. 29.Â
With a win, the Golden Grizzlies will move into a potential tie for fourth place in the Horizon League, placing them favorably for a late-season run and a higher seed in the Horizon LEague Championship. With a loss, Oakland could fall from fifth to as low as seventh in the standings ladder.
