Men's Soccer Takes on Butler in Search for First Win of the Season

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies head to Indianapolis as they search for their first win of the season as they take on the Butler Bulldogs.

Oakland is on the heels of a 2-1 loss to Michigan in Ann Arbor on Sunday, where Jack Klomparens continued a strong start to the season with his first goal of the season. The Golden Grizzlies came close to scoring the equalizer and even taking the lead several times, but missed on goals and key opportunities.

As the season moves along, Oakland will surely convert on more chances and become more comfortable on the pitch, and the 0-2 record does not faze the Golden Grizzlies as they know the experience against two quality opponents will sharpen their skills for the later parts of the season.

As they prepare for the Bulldogs, the Golden Grizzlies will look to earn their second win in eight meetings with Butler, holding a 1-3-3 record. Oakland is looking to earn their first win in the last five head-to-head meetings, last scoring a 4-1 win in Indianapolis in 2000. In their last meeting, coming in 2022, the Bulldogs emerged with a 1-2 win.

Butler enters Friday with a 1-0-1 record, with a 2-1 win over Southern Indiana in their season opener and a 1-1 tie with Western Illinois on Aug. 25.

Through two games, Oakland is averaging one goal per game, 11 shots per game (22 shots total), and holds a .318 shot on goal percentage (7-of-22). In comparison, the Bulldogs hold similar yet slightly higher numbers with 1.5 goals per game, 19.5 shots per game (39 total), and a .359 shot on goal percentage (14-of-39).

The Golden Grizzlies and Bulldogs face off on Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl.
