Women's Soccer Embarks on Two-Game Road Trip in Search for First Win

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland continues the early portion of their season as they hit the road for back-to-back matches in Ohio as they take on Akron and Kent State.

Oakland tied their most recent match 1-1 in the home-opener against North Dakota. Frankie Mudd, the team's leading returning goal scorer, scored her first goal of the season in the effort. Freshman Gabriella Ruffino also earned her first career assist to Mudd, capping off a strong performance for the Shelby Township native.

Lisa Kazandjian, Marina Downing, Mia Tuka, and Shannon Brown continued a string of strong performances as well, continuing Oakland's trend of improving each game.

THURSDAY, AUG. 22 @ AKRON at 7 P.M.

The Golden Grizzlies look to stay unbeaten against the Zips, holding a 2-0-1 all-time record. The teams last faced-off in 2022, playing to a 1-1 draw.

The Zips enter the contest 1-0-1 on the season, earning a pair of road victories with a 2-1 win over Iona to start the year and a 1-1 tie to Eastern Illinois. Akron is on pace for a bounce back year, after going 3-14-1 in 2023, including going 0-8 at home.

SUNDAY, AUG. 25 @ KENT STATE at 2 P.M.

Oakland will finish the week off with a tough test against the Kent State. Golden Flashes, where the Golden Grizzlies look to stay undefeated in Kent, Ohio.

Oakland is 1-3-2 all-time against the Golden Flashes (1-0-1 on the road) and has fallen in two of the last three matchups, including a 1-2 loss nearly exactly a year ago. The Golden Grizzlies did get the best of Kent State the last time the two faced off on the Golden Flashes' home turf with a 2-0 win in 2022.

Kent State is on the hunt for a MAC championship win after finishing the 12-7-2, falling just short of the NCAA Tournament with a loss in the MAC Championship semifinals to Ohio.
