Women's Soccer Looks to Bounce Back in Home Opener Against North Dakota

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies get ready to play their first contest on their home pitch as they welcome the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks to Rochester.

Oakland looks to get their first win of the season, after a late-game 0-1 loss to Eastern Michigan on Thursday. Several players made the most of the season-opener for Oakland, including juniors Frankie Mudd and Shannon Brown, along with sophomore Mia Tuka who all registered shots at Eastern Michigan's goal. Freshman Gabriella Ruffino was the closest to tallying a goal for the Golden Grizzlies, coming inches away from a last-minute equalizer.

The play in goal was also impressive in the opener for Oakland. In the first half sophomore Lauren Perry shut out the Eagles in her first career start, clocking a save on three shots faced. In the second half Julia Zangerl also shined, earning three saves on seven shots faced, including a couple crucial saves to keep Oakland within arms reach.

Oakland showed flashes of positivity in their season opener, and look to continue to take steps forward in their progression against a brand new opponent.

The meeting between Oakland and North Dakota will be the first ever head-to-head matchup between the programs. The Fighting Hawks also come into the game winless on the season after one game, having played to a 1-1 tie against Texas A&M Corpus Christi on August 15th.

The first game of the season on the Oakland Soccer Field will be on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 1 p.m.
