Men's Soccer Bringing Back Former Star Tinnion as Assistant

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland Men's Soccer has promoted Joey Tinnion from part-time assistant coach to full-time assistant coach.

Tinnion joins the staff under new Head Coach Paul Doroh, who was officially given the helm this spring after years of serving as assistant and associate head coach for the Golden Grizzlies.

"I'm very excited to have Joey full time this fall. He understands the needs of our Oakland players and will challenge them in their development," said Doroh. "He (Tinnion) will be a great resource for the team and will provide knowledgeable and valuable information as we get to work in pursuit of our on- and off-field goals this fall. I'm thankful for Joey and what he brings to the men's soccer program. Another Grizzly comes home and we're very happy to receive him."

Tinnion was brought into the program prior to the 2023 season as a part-time assistant, helping the Golden Grizzlies clinch the Horizon League regular season title and an appearance in the league championship game. Tinnion greatly contributed to the success of the student-athletes during the season, as Oakland garnered eight Horizon League post-season and All-League Award members.

Tinnion looks to continue his own long-standing streak of success at Oakland that originally began as a student-athlete. As a men's soccer player himself from 2011 to 2014, Tinnion earned back-to-back All-Horizon League nods (2013, 2014), becoming the first Oakland player with two Horizon League All-League selections. Over his career, he scored 17 goals, dished out nine assists, and led the Golden Grizzlies to a league championship title and NCAA Tournament win in 2014.

"I am very thankful for this opportunity to work with the Oakland Men's Soccer Program," said Tinnion. This program gave me so much as an aspiring young player and young man, and being able to come back and be a part of shaping and pushing that very same program is a blessing. Thank you Paul Doroh for trusting me to help lead this great program. I'm excited to get to work, and help continue and build upon the tradition of success that has always existed within Oakland Men's Soccer."

Oakland Men's Soccer is poised for another successful season, looking forward to continuing a tradition of excellence and the chance to capture a fourth Horizon League championship title.
