Golden Grizzlies Stack up Runs as they Begin Metro Series with a Rout of the Titans

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies opened the Metro Series with force, scoring double-digit runs for just the second time this season as they beat Detroit Mercy 10-0 in five innings of play.

Oakland started the scoring early in the bottom of the first as Brooklyn Plitz's leadoff single put a runner on base, setting up a thundering two-run home run from Reese Ruhlman to left field, her first of the season to put Oakland up 2-0. After a Taylor Carraway walk and a Maggie Murphy single, Kamryn Troyer stepped in and delivered an RBI single, helping the Golden Grizzlies exit the first inning with a 3-0 lead.

The second and third innings went scoreless on both sides, thanks to another gem from Sydney Campbell in the circle. She retired eight out of ten batters through the first three innings, allowing zero hits.

While Campbell was working her magic in the circle, the rest of the Golden Grizzlies made some magic of their own in the batter's box, blowing the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out, Plitz and Maci Brown delivered back-to-back doubles to put runners on the corners. Jen Krizka reached first on a Titans fielding error, allowing Plitz to speed home, tacking another run on the board as Oakland went up 4-0. In what was a tough inning in the field for Detroit, Ruhlman followed Krizka reaching on a fielder's choice and as the Titans tried to turn a double play, a bobbled catch at second base was all Oakland needed to score again as Brown this time scooted home to put the lead at five runs.

Maggie Murphy showed her plate discipline, getting a free base after getting hit by a pitch, loading the bases with two outs for the Golden Grizzlies. Troyer delivered her third hit of the game with a two-RBI double, ballooning the lead to 7-0 in favor of Oakland. After yet another error by a struggling Detroit defense to score a run in a Jenna Johnston at-bat, Madi Herrington delivered the finishing blow with a bases-clearing triple, scoring two more runs and extending Oakland's lead to double digits at 10-0.

Campbell earned the win in a dominating performance tossing all five innings, finishing just one out away from her first career no-hitter as a starter with the lone lone Titan hit coming on a Jaiden Lara single up the middle with two-outs in the top of the fifth inning. The senior ace for Oakland added six strikeouts as she earned her tenth win of the season.

Oakland collected 12 hits as a team, their second most this season and most since earning 14 against South Carolina State (2/24) to open the season. Four Golden Grizzlies tallied multiple hits against Detroit as Troyer went a perfect 3-of-3 with three RBI, while Brown, Herrington and Plitz went 2-of-3. Taylor Carraway went 0-of-2, ending her eight game hitting streak, but kept another streak alive as she has safely reached base in nine straight.

Oakland improves to 7-3 in conference play and looks to add a pair of wins to that mark as they play a double-header against the Titans tomorrow at 1 p.m. to finish off the series.
