Golden Grizzlies Earn Fourth Straight League Series Win as they Conquer the Titans in the Metro Series

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies split the final two games of their midweek series as they played a Wednesday doubleheader, finishing their three game stint against Detroit Mercy with a 2-1 series win.

Game 1

Oakland started the game with promise as Brooklyn Plitz drove a lead-off single to shallow right field in the team's first at-bat. After a pop-out, Jen Krizka added a single of her own to left field and advanced Plitz to second base but no one was able to score in the first inning.

In the bottom of the second inning, Kamryn Troyer tried to wake the offense with a lively single up the middle to get it started. After a perfectly laid sacrifice bunt from Mia Konyvka, Troyer turned on the jets and advanced to third base. Jenna Johnston grounded out to second base in her first plate appearance, but it still earned her the RBI, scoring Troyer to get the Golden Grizzlies on the board first with a 1-0 lead.

Alyssa Balcom held steady in the circle until the fourth inning, where The Titans would gain some momentum. The inning started with a forced ground out, but with one out Amanda Schick was hit by a pitch, followed up by a single by Alexis Hoff to put runners at the corners. Claire Borg stepped up for Detroit with a two-RBI double to right center field, snatching the lead to go up 2-1. Mary Newton stepped into the circle for the Golden Grizzlies, forcing a fly out to center field to end the inning.

For the remainder of the game, the bats went cold for Oakland, getting just two hits in the final three innings as they fell in the second game of the Metro Series to Detroit mercy, 2-1.
While the Golden Grizzlies only manufactured five hits, they still had plenty of good at-bats and made solid contact with a large amount of pitches, they were just unable to get any hits to drop in the gaps of the Detroit defense, much to the credit of the Titans who turned it around after a rough game in the field of game one in the series.

While pitching two innings in the loss, Newton also saw her first at-bats of the season, going 1-of-2 showcasing her versatility and ability to play both sides. Krizka, Brown, Plitz, and Troyer all added one hit each to Oakland's offensive tally.

Game 2

The two teams stepped back onto the diamond just 30 minutes later for the series tiebreaker as Oakland looked to win their fourth straight league series, while the Titans looked to build off of their first win in a league game.

After a tough first game, the Golden Grizzlies made sure to set the tone out the gate in game two of the day. Plitz started off the bottom of the first with a walk to get it started, putting Oakland's fastest baserunner in position to make something happen on the path right away. Krizka made it to first base on an error,  pushing Plitz over to second base with just one out. Taylor Carraway reached first base on a fielder's choice, placing herself at first and Krizka at second. Troyer delivered her second hit of the day, singling to right field and bringing the first run of the game home as Oakland took a 1-0 lead. Madi Herrington kept the momentum swinging with a single through the right side again, scoring Carraway, to make it a 2-0 lead. Konyvka was the third single in a row for the Golden Grizzlies, earning her first RBI of the season and bringing Troyer across the plate to push the lead to 3-0.

Oakland added more runs to the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning, starting the party back up with a Jenna Johnston leadoff double to center field. Brooklyn Plitz sped down the line after a bunt trickled out of the box, earning a single and putting runners on the corners with no outs. Brown stepped into the batter's box and put together a solid at-bat. She showcased the patience needed for Oakland to strike, as a past ball gave Johnston the daylight to score and Plitz to advance to third. Brown battled and came through with a sacrifice fly to left field, as Plitz tagged up and made it a 5-0 Golden Grizzlies advantage.

After a three-up and three-down inning from senior pitcher Sydney Campbell, the bats kept their fire for Oakland as they delivered the biggest blow in the bottom of the third inning. Madi Herrington stood tall, getting hit by a pitch for a free base. Konyvka singled into center field for hit number two of the game, moving Herrington up one base. Both runners advanced on a passed ball, where Johnston delivered a  grounder that allowed Herrington to get home, making the score 6-0. With Allisa DiPrima in to pinch run for Konyvka, Plitz continued a stellar series, smashing an RBI triple to right center field, scoring DiPrima to extend the lead 7-0. Maci Brown put the icing on the cake with an RBI single to left field, scoring Plitz for an 8-0 Oakland lead.

Campbell added another win to her record, pitching all 5 innings as Oakland won via run rule, allowing only two hits and striking out five batters.
In two starts during the series, Campbell allowed just three hits and no runs in 10 innings pitched, showcasing her elite play in the circle.

Plitz finished game two a perfect 2-of-2 at the plate, scoring both times she reached base. Brown went 1-of-2 with two RBI, while in her second start of the series went 2-of-2 with an RBI.
The Golden Grizzlies hit the road for the next series against Green Bay in Wisconsin on April 13 at 1 p.m.
