Golden Grizzlies Drop Tight-Knit Battle Against Rockets, 3-2

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Golden Grizzlies couldn't hang on against the Toledo Rockets as it fell, 3-2, this afternoon at Scott Park.
 
The Golden Grizzlies (12-16, 4-5 HL) saw six players record a hit as Lucas Day and Carter Hain led the team with a RBI each. Day hit the sole home run by either side on the day, as Brody Krzysiak pitched six innings and struck out four with four hits allowed.
 
The Rockets (14-14, 8-4 MAC) only had five players record a hit while JP Wagner led the game with two RBI, as the Rockets utilized five pitchers as starter Yianni Skeriotis struck out six with three hits allowed.
 
The Rockets got things started in its second at-bat as a single was followed up by another as a throwing error put the Rockets on the board. The Rockets kept it rolling with its third single of the frame for its first RBI of the contest as it jumped to a 2-0 lead. The Golden Grizzlies answered innings later as Day took a two-one count deep towards left field with two outs for a solo shot and cut the Rockets lead in half.
 
The Golden Grizzlies held its own as it only allowed one hit after the second innings until the seventh, as Oakland knotted things up in the top of the inning. Brandon Nigh was lethal on the bases as he smacked a single down the left field line and advanced to second off a wild pitch. He kept it rolling as he stole third to put the tying run 90 feet from home as Hain laid down a bunt to bring Nigh home and tie things at 2-2.
 
The game was held even at two until the bottom of the eighth, as the Rockets broke the stalemate with a sacrifice fly as the Golden Grizzlies had three more outs to get on more runs. The Golden Grizzlies nearly tied things up as it had the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth, but a ground out put the game to an end as the team dropped its sole game against the Rockets, 3-2.
 
The Golden Grizzlies outhit the Rockets, 6-5, but committed one more error than Toledo with two. Each team struck out seven batters and walked six, as the Golden Grizzlies led on the base pads with three stolen bases compared to two.
 
The Golden Grizzlies return to the diamond tomorrow (April 2) as it returns home for the first time since March 13, as it hosts Bowling Green for a single game, with first pitch set for 2:30 p.m.
