Golden Grizzlies Drop Sole Game Against Wolverines, 13-5

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - An early lead was too large for the Golden Grizzlies to come back from as it fell to the Wolverines, 13-5, at Ray Fisher Stadium.

The Golden Grizzlies (3-8, 0-0 HL) were led by Brandon Nigh who batted in a pair of batters and hit one of the teams two home runs on the day. Lucas Day tacked on the other home run and Aidan Orr led the team with two hits.

The Wolverines (5-8, 0-0 Big Ten) had 10 different players record a hit as seven separate batters batted in at least one run. Cole Caruso led the team with four RBI as he tallied a grand slam.

Aidan Orr started things off in the third as he ripped one down the left field line and raced his way towards second for the Golden Grizzlies first hit of the game. He made his way to third off the following hit and was driven home by Sam Griffith to open the scoring. Orr sped towards the plate as a hard hit ball was juggled by the second baseman for a moment, where he couldn't make the throw at home as took the out at first instead.

The Wolverines answered, however, as it tacked on six runs in the third off a single, a pair of doubles and a home run to put Oakland down, 6-1. The Golden Grizzlies didn't fall far behind, however, as Brandon Nigh sent one high and far towards left field and drove in Ian Cleary who got on base by a hit by pitch. Oakland went back-to-back sending one out of the park as Lucas Day was due up and blasted one to right field to push it to a two-run game with five innings to play.

The Wolverines had an answer, however, as a single in the bottom of the frame drove in a pair to make it 8-4, Michigan. Aaron Evers and Reggie Bussey got the team out of a jam in the sixth as the Wolverines juiced the bases, but Bussey got under the ball with two outs to end the inning unscathed.

Trent Rice's hit rode the right field line and raced along the wall as he sped around first and second before sliding his way into third. Cleary started off the two-out rally as he drove in Rice but was left stranded as the Golden Grizzlies cut its deficit to three. The Wolverines tacked on five more in the eighth, including a grand slam, as Oakland had to battle back with three outs left.

Erik Larsen started things off with a double to put himself in scoring position but was left stranded as the Golden Grizzlies fell to the Wolverines, 13-5

The Golden Grizzlies struck out four batters on the day and only walked a pair. Offensively, Oakland tacked on seven hits with a pair of doubles, triples and home runs to account for its five runs.
