DAYTON, Ohio – The Golden Grizzlies came away with an impressive seven inning win against the Raiders as it run ruled Wright State, 19-1, this afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium.
The Golden Grizzlies (11-14, 3-4 HL) were dominant from the plate as it scored 19 runs off 20 hits on the day.
Brandon Nigh led the team in RBI with four, followed by
Lucas Day and
Carter Hain who each tallied three. Eight batters in total batted in at least a run for the Golden Grizzlies with half scoring two or more.
Hunter Pidek had a dominant night on the mound, only allowing one run and five hits on 72 pitches thrown.
The Raiders (13-12, 4-3 HL) struggled to keep up with the pace set by the Golden Grizzlies as Gus Gregory was the sole Raider to record a RBI and an extra-base hit with his solo home run.
The Golden Grizzlies started the game off hot as it tallied nine runs in the first inning. Nigh and Hain each batted in a trio of runners, with
Trent Rice,
Lucas Day and
Brandon Heidal all tallied one in the opening frame. The Golden Grizzlies would see out of the inning with three quick outs, highlighted by a double play.
The Golden Grizzlies continued its dominance in the third and fourth inning as it ran up the score and put up five unanswered runs. The third inning saw
Aidan Orr pick up a pair RBI while
John Lauinger tallied one. Day picked up the sole RBI of the fourth as the Golden Grizzlies were rolling and led after the frame, 14-0.
The sixth inning saw Oakland start the scoring up once again where it picked up two runs, courtesy of a RBI from Nigh and a fielding error, as Day and
Liam Pollock picked up one RBI apiece in the seventh. The Raiders added a consolation run in the bottom of the seventh but it was too late as the run rule was called and the Golden Grizzlies went on to take the game, 19-1.
The Golden Grizzlies tallied 20 hits in total but only recorded a pair of extra base hits, while the Raiders tacked on five hits with one home run. Oakland left 12 runners stranded while Wright State only left four where the Golden Grizzlies led the game in stolen bases. Ten Golden Grizzlies tallied at least a hit as six had multi-hit days.
The Golden Grizzlies look to go ahead on the series against Wright State tomorrow (March 29) with its second of three games from Nischwitz Stadium, with first pitch set for 2:00 p.m. ET.
