Golden Grizzlies Dominate 1500m Race as they Finish up Pioneer and Polar Bear Invites

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Golden Grizzlies Track and Field Team headed to Transylvania University for the Pioneer Invite.

Heading into week number two of the outdoor season, Oakland continued to build upon the momentum they built last week, where several student-athletes broke PRs and clocked in times that ranked in the top ten in program history. The team had a dominant start to the day as the Golden Grizzlies blazed the trail in the women's 1500m race. Oakland took home the top four spots with Madeline Richman taking first place with a time of 4:51.94. Sarah-Rose Sullivan earned the silver spot with a time of 4:52.98, while Ellie Voteberg's 4:54.05 time placed third and Genavive Kushner-Lopez rounded out the top spots in fourth with a time of 4:58.07.

The women continued their success at the meet in the 800m race as Abby Jackson outpaced the field, earning the top time at 2:16.64, setting a new meet record. Karenna Duffey was the next Golden Grizzly to cross the finish line, earning third place clocking in at 2:21.20. Sullivan and Richman earned their second top five finishes of the meet as Sullivan placed fourth (2:24.19) and Richman fifth (2:24.88).

On the men's side, Oakland had two runners compete in Lexington. Senior Christian Collis competed in the men's 5000m, finishing in fourth place with a time of 15:52.40. Sophomore Sam Vitale rounded out the field at the Pioneer Invite, earning a top 15 finish in the men's 1500m race, finishing in 4:18.68.

Oakland also still had a pair of pole vaulters head to Indiana Wesleyan for the IWU Polar Bear Invitational. Junior Alexa Messina earned sixth place with a mark of 3.40m. Sophomore Victoria Sanders also finished top 15 with a mark of 3.10m.

The Golden Grizzlies head south once again for their next week, traveling to NC State for the Raleigh Relays from Thursday, Mar. 28 to Saturday, Mar. 30.
