OXFORD, Ohio - The Golden Grizzlies put up a fight against the Redhawks this afternoon at McKie Field at Hayden Park but despite an eventful 9th inning, fell, 21-7.

The Golden Grizzlies (3-5, 0-0 HL) saw four hits from four separate batters, along with four RBI from all different players.
Brandon Nigh and
Lucas Day both batted in a run and tacked on a hit, while
Erik Larsen grabbed the sole double for Oakland.

The Redhawks (3-5, 0-0 MAC) earned its way to a victory as Patrick Mastrian took the win on the mound, while Ryland Zaborowski and Ryan Novak batted in five runs off four hits.

The Redhawks started off strong as it scored six runs within the first inning to put Oakland behind early. The Golden Grizzlies didn't back down though and scored its first run in the second inning.
Brandon Heidal and
John Lauinger started off the second frame by getting hit by a pitch, as Heidal reached third on a fielder's choice. With runners on the corner, the team converted off a double steal as Heidal dashed home as the Redhawks tried to catch
Drew Gaskins at second.

Miami, however, answered in a big way with four runs in the bottom of the second with four runs and kept it rolling. The Golden Grizzlies bats fell flat as Miami proceeded to score nine runs and hold Oakland scoreless to make it 15-1 after five.

The Golden Grizzlies put up a fight against the Redhawks and got back on the board in the sixth inning as Nigh scored on a balk, but the Redhawks kept it coming as it scored six runs in the inning to make it 21-2.

It would be the last runs of the evening for the Redhawks as the Golden Grizzlies had nine outs left to complete the tall task of a comeback. The comeback attempt started in the seventh inning when
Trent Rice stole second and
Sam Griffith, who originally got on base from a single, scored on an error. Oakland was held scoreless in the eighth as it had three outs to make magic.

Though the Golden Grizzlies were far behind, it wasn't backing down. It powered through the ninth inning as Larsen led off with a double and Oakland saw four runs cross the plate, but the 14-run difference was too large to make a comeback as the team fell, 21-7.

Both teams recorded a pair of errors as Miami recorded 22 hits and Oakland knocked down four. Each team left nine stranded and eight Golden Grizzlies were struck out at the dish, while six Redhawks were sent back to the dugout from the plate.

The Golden Grizzlies return to the diamond for game number two against the Redhawks tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. ET.
