INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - After another standout outing at the GVSU Big Meet last Friday (Feb. 9), indoor track and field runner
Abby Jackson was selected as the Horizon League Track and Field Indoor Women's Runner of the Week.
The sophomore is the first Golden Grizzly on both the men's and women's side to earn the accolade this season, and is the first women's runner from Oakland to earn the award since
Ashley Quinn earned the honors last season (Jan. 24).
Jackson placed herself atop the Horizon League leaderboard in the Women's 800m Race as she placed fourth at the GVSU Big Meet with a personal best time of 2:10.83. Jackson beat out her previous personal best which was set a week prior by nearly a second and beat out Milwaukee's top runner in the race, at the same meet, by half a second. Jackson holds the half second lead in the leaderboard and continues to hone in during the race as she's improved her time by almost five seconds from the beginning of the indoor season.
Jackson and the Golden Grizzlies track and field team's hit the road one last time in preparation of the Horizon League Championship. Both the men and the women will bus up to Saginaw for the SVSU Tune Up before it heads to Youngstown, Ohio the following week for the championships (Feb. 24-25).
