Golden Grizzlies Outlast Colonials, 87-72, for Fifth-Straight Home Win

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Blake Lampman tallied 20 points in the first half and went on to tie his career-high as the Golden Grizzlies defeated the Colonials, 87-72, tonight inside the OU Credit Union O'rena.
 
The Golden Grizzlies (13-9, 8-3 HL) were led by Lampman who set a new career-high in three pointers made with eight as he finished with 26 points, while Tuburu Naivalurua led the team off the glass with eight boards. Jack Gohlke followed up his performance against Milwaukee with another high-scoring effort as he went 4-of-8 from the field for 19 points.
 
The Colonials (8-13, 4-6 HL) saw four players with double-digit points as Robert Morris' leading scorer, Markeese Hastings, tallied a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards. Justice Williams beat him out in the scoring category with 18 as he had the team high.
 
Robert Morris grabbed the first basket of the game before the team worked it along the perimeter into the hands of Lampman who drilled a three. The Colonials matched with a three of its own, but Lampman added back-to-back from beyond the arc to put Oakland ahead early, 9-7. Lampman made the O'rena erupt after he drilled his fourth three early as he accounted for all 12 of Oakland's points 4:27 into the game.
 
Robert Morris ended Oakland's 10-0 run, as Rocket Watts and Lampman both added two from the floor, with a three, but Watts converted once again with a mid-range jumper. Just as good as a made three, Gohlke drew a foul from downtown and nailed his three from the charity stripe to increase the Golden Grizzlies lead. Lampman kept with the hot hand and tacked on his 17th point of the night with his fifth three of the game.
 
DQ Cole grew the Golden Grizzlies lead to double digits as Gohlke intercepted a pass and fed it to Cole on the fast break. The Colonials started to close the gap as a quick five points made it 29-23, but Cole found his spot from range and drilled a three, followed by a wide-open dunk from Trey Townsend after a Naivalurua steal, to put the Golden Grizzlies up by 11 once again.
 
Lampman continued to be lethal as he drained yet another three for his 20th point of the half as Oakland was rolling both offensively and defensively. The Golden Grizzlies held the Colonials scoreless for nearly four minutes as it took advantage and rattled off 11-straight points to widen its lead to 40-23. Robert Morris went on to score seven-straight to end the half as Oakland held on to a 10-point lead after 20, 40-30.
 
Lampman went into the locker room as the only player on either side to have double-digit points with his 20 as he was 7-of-10 (.700) from the floor with six from range. Lampman had half of the Golden Grizzlies makes as the team was 14-of-31 (.452) from the field with seven total three. On the other side, Robert Morris was 13-of-33 (.394) from the floor and was 4-of-14 (.286) from three. Despite Robert Morris being one of the leading rebounding teams in the Horizon League, Oakland led the battle of the glass with 20 boards compared to the Colonials 19.
 
Robert Morris continued to narrow the lead in the opening minute of the second half, but Gohlke hit a three to put Oakland's lead back to 11. The Colonials answered with one of its own, but Gohlke drilled another from range following a Townsend layup to make it 50-37, Oakland. Two from the line by Gohlke gave him his 10th and 11th of the night as he capped off the Golden Grizzlies 9-0 run.
 
Although Oakland's lead grew to as much as 20 with 13:40 left to play, Robert Morris battled back and went on a 12-0 run to put itself back into the game at 59-51. Watts put a halt to the run as he crossed up his defender and nailed one from downtown. The Colonials continued to inch closer in the score but Gohlke tabbed his third three of the contest to make it 67-57 Oakland with 7:14 to go.
 
Lampman tied his career-high in field goals made (eight), along with three pointers made (seven) as he hit from range to push the team's lead to 11. Lampman went on to tie his career-high in points (26) and also set a new three-point career high as he sank another from deep. Oakland started to run away with it as Cole made one from three, followed by three-straight from the charity stripe for the team to make it 79-64 Oakland.
 
Although the lead grew to 15 with 2:40 to go, Robert Morris hung around as time was winding down to force Oakland to make its free throws. The Colonials hung around an 11-point deficit, but the lead was too much as Oakland iced the game with free throws and controlled the final minutes for the win, 87-72.
 
Oakland was lights out from the floor in the second half as it shot 15-of-24 (.625) from the floor to increase its overall percentage to 52.7%. The team added eight threes in the final 20 as it totaled 15, while Robert Morris added four for a total of eight. The teams tied off the glass as both teams totaled 35, as Oakland held the edge on the defensive side with 27.
