Women's Basketball Set for Pair of Road Games as They Look to Gain Momentum

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies women's basketball team is set to return to the court after a week long break with a pair of road games against Robert Morris and Indiana.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 18 @ ROBERT MORRIS | 7 PM | ESPN+

The Golden Grizzlies look to make it two wins in a row in conference play as they take on the Colonials.

RMU comes into the week 4-6 overall, currently riding back-to-back wins against Milwaukee (12/7) and Mercyhurst (12/14).

The Golden Grizzlies look to improve upon a dominant matchup historically, having only lost to the Colonials twice in eight matchups. The two teams last faced off in February of 2024, where Oakland took home a 67-65 win at home behind a Maddy Skorupski game-winning layup as time expired.

Oakland swept the Colonials in a pair of meetings last season, and are looking for their second straight win when traveling to the UPMC Events Center.

The Colonials play a defensive brand of basketball, helping them sit as the second best scoring defense in the Horizon League, allowing 60.7 opponent points per game and allowing opponents to shoot just .378 from the field.

Where the Golden Grizzlies have the advantage is on the offensive end. The Colonials score the second fewest points per game (50.9) of any Horizon League team, while shooting just over .390 from the floor, which is also bottom three in the league.

The Golden Grizzlies may also be able to gain an advantage from the three point line, as the squad is a top three team in defending triples, holding opponents to just over .300 from beyond the arc, while the Colonials already struggle to shoot from deep with a .250 clip from range this season.

Oakland's offensive scoring threats in Maddy Skorupski, Lianna Baxter, and Macy Smith, who all average over eight points per game and are always threats to get hot from beyond the arc, may very well be the key to a 2-0 start to conference play.

SUNDAY, DEC. 22 @ INDIANA | 12 PM | BIG+

Oakland will travel to Bloomington for their final non-conference matchup of the season to take on a streaking Hoosiers team.

Indiana holds an 8-3 record on the season, having won four consecutive games coming into the showdown against the Golden Grizzlies.
Oakland is looking for their first ever win against Indiana, having lost each of the four meetings between the teams.

The two squads have not met since the 2018-19 season, where the Golden Grizzlies fell at home.

Junior guard Yarden Garzon is the engine of Indiana's offense, leading the team in points (14.7) and assists (3.5) per game, ranking in the top 20 in the Big Ten in both categories.

Indiana also looks to impose their will on defense as they rank in the top six of opponent points per game (62.5) in their conference, providing a second straight opponent where Oakland will have to work to create quality shots and most importantly take care of the ball.
