YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Oakland University women's swim and dive team competed against Eastern Michigan in a closely contested meet at Jones Natatorium. Despite strong performances across multiple events, the Golden Grizzlies fell short, with the Eagles securing a 161-139 victory.
The meet began with a narrow second-place finish for Oakland's 200-yard medley relay team, which clocked in at 1:44.48, just behind Eastern Michigan's winning time of 1:44.22. In the distance events,
Mia Englender excelled for Oakland, winning the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:32.27. She also placed second in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 5:15.08.
Oakland's
Grace Albrecht made her mark in the backstroke events, claiming victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.17 and finishing a close second in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:04.10. In the sprint freestyle events,
Ronja Riihinen delivered standout performances, winning both the 50-yard freestyle in 23.96 and the 100-yard freestyle in 52.08.
In diving,
Ellie Chalifoux earned first place on the 1-meter board with a score of 279.83 and secured second place on the 3-meter board with 281.93.
Jordyn Shipps showcased her versatility by winning the 100-yard butterfly in 55.84 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:07.01, adding crucial points for the Golden Grizzlies.
Despite Oakland's strong individual and relay performances, Eastern Michigan's depth across events and key relay wins helped the Eagles emerge victorious. Oakland will aim to carry their momentum into their next meet as they continue the season.
