Golden Grizzlies Reverse Sweep Raiders in Season Finale

ROCHESTER, Mich. – In their second matchup of the weekend against Wright State, and the teams season finale, the Oakland Golden Grizzlies secured a thrilling victory in a hard-fought five-set battle at the OU Credit Union O'Rena.

SET ONE: OAKLAND 12, WRIGHT STATE 25
Oakland came out strong and with high energy for their season finale match, determined to win the second match against Wright State. The start of the set featured an intense rally, with the teams trading points and staying within a one-point difference for much of the early action.

Gentry Brown contributed significantly to the first set, recording several early kills, while Libby Smith added a timely dig and two key kills to help Oakland pull ahead. Oakland, though competitive early on, struggled to match Wright State's intensity, and the Raiders capitalized on the Golden Grizzlies' errors, extending their lead midway through the set.

Despite a late rally with a few kills from Brown and Tyler Linkhart, the Golden Grizzlies couldn't close the gap, and Wright State secured the first set, 25-12.

SET TWO: OAKLAND 14, WRIGHT STATE 25
Oakland came out with renewed intensity in the second set, staying close early on with some strong offensive plays. Wright State began to take control but the Golden Grizzlies quickly caught back up thanks to an ace from Brown and two kills from Christina Bohm. This effective offense led to a 6-1 run for Oakland, making it 15-10 in the middle of the set.

Although Oakland put up a great effort, the Raiders' consistent offense and strong defense allowed them to pull away midway through the set, 20-12. Oakland fought back with determination, striving for a comeback, with two kills from Ainsley Guse and one from Olivia Rust. However, WSU ultimately secured the second set with a score of 25-14.

SET THREE: OAKLAND 25, WRIGHT STATE 20
The third set was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams refusing to give an inch. Wright State came out strong and built a slight lead early, but Oakland responded with a series of great plays. Brown added a crucial kill to tie the set at 11-11, forcing the Raiders into a timeout.

With the set tied at 11-11, it was anyone's game. However, a block by Brown and a big time kill from Bohm gave Oakland the lead at 13-11. Oakland continued to exhibit strong offense and stayed ahead of the Raiders by three points. Key players Guse and Brown contributed greatly to OU's lead, each with four kills. Bohm also was a key offensive player in this set, with three kills as well as a kill that ultimately won Oakland the set, 25-20.

SET FOUR: OAKLAND 25, WRIGHT STATE 22
In the fourth set, Oakland came out strong, matching Wright State point-for-point early on and keeping the score tied in the opening moments. Wright State briefly took a two-point lead after a stalemate, however, the Golden Grizzlies quickly bridged the gap thanks to key players Bohm and Guse. These players quickly came back with consistent attacks to put OU in the lead, 15-11.

Oakland continued to keep up their momentum with back-to-back kills and an ace by Brown, putting OU ahead, 19-13. Guse sealed the victory for the Golden Grizzlies with a powerful block, and the Golden Grizzlies finished the match with a thrilling 25-22 win in the fourth set.

SET FIVE: OAKLAND 15, WRIGHT STATE 6
