Men's Soccer Begins Horizon League Championship Run Against Green Bay

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Golden Grizzlies look to make their second Horizon League championship berth as they take on the Green Bay Phoenix in the Horizon League semi-final at the Oakland Soccer Field.

Oakland enters the game with an 8-6-2 overall record and a 6-1-2 record in conference play. Notably, the Golden Grizzlies are on a five-game winning streak and most recently beat the Phoenix on Nov. 1 with a final score of 1-0.

A main reason behind the win was a shutout from Goalkeeper of the Year Alex Flowers. Flowers has let up just four total goals throughout the five-game win streak. Along with Flowers, Carson Ballagh and Abdul Al-Rashed have come up big as of late. Al-Rashed has scored multiple goals, and Ballagh has distributed four assists over the course of the last five games.

The Phoenix matchup with Oakland after a 3-1 quarter-final win over the Cleveland State Vikings. Green Bay brings a high-powered offense to the table, taking the most shots in the Horizon League with 236 while scoring the third-most goals with 31.

Behind that Green Bay offense is Chris Album, who has scored the third-most goals in the Horizon League, bracing the net seven times. Additionally, Album is responsible for the most game-winning goals this season with three.

With an 11-2-1 historical record against Green Bay, the Golden Grizzlies will look to earn their 12th win against the Phoenix on Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Oakland Soccer Field at 1 p.m. ET. The game will also be live-streamed on ESPN+.
